HAMPTON ANNOUNCES 2019 FIRST AFRICAN LANDING COMMEMORATIVE CONCERT FEATURING COMMON, SOUNDS OF BLACKNESS

(Hampton, VA) The City of Hampton is pleased present the 2019 First African Landing Commemorative Concert featuring COMMON and Sounds of Blackness, August 24, 2019 at Hampton Coliseum. The event is one in a weekend of events and programs presented August 23-25, 2019 to commemorate the 1619 arrival of the first Africans in English North America at Point Comfort in Hampton, Virginia.

Tickets are available at Hampton Coliseum (1000 Coliseum Drive, Hampton, 23666) and The American Theatre (125 Mellen Street, Hampton 23663) box offices at no charge, and online at Ticketmaster.com for a small handling fee, with a limit of four tickets per person. Doors will open at 5 pm for this general admission event with seating on the arena floor. Artists scheduled to appear are subject to change. Accessible seating is available on a first-come, first-served basis. Everyone must have a ticket to attend concert.

The 2019 First African Landing Commemorative Concert featuring COMMON and Sounds of Blackness is one event in a series presented by the Hampton 2019 Commemorative Commission, the Virginia 2019 Commemoration, National Park Service, and the Fort Monroe Authority, that serve to engage residents and visitors in learning about the critical 1619 turning point in our nation’s history.
